Five things you should know about Southern Sun

Southern Africa’s leading hospitality group, Southern Sun, will be heading to The Meetings Show in June to give event buyers an insight into its MICE facilities. Ahead of the show, we round up five key facts about the company.

  1. It caters to all needs. Southern Sun operates under 15 different brands covering all categories – from 1 to 5 stars – in Africa, the Seychelles and the Middle East. Its luxury brands include 54 on Bath and Sandton Sun, while full service brands are Southern Sun Hotels, Southern Sun Resorts, Sun Square and Garden Court. Its economy brands, Stay Easy and Sun 1, provide clients and their delegates with a range of options for stays.
  2. It operates a dedicated convention centre. Sandton Convention Centre is Southern Sun’s modern convention centre in the Sandton district of Johannesburg, offering 22,000 square metres of convention, exhibition and events space. The seven-storey venue can host multiple events simultaneously – anything from a meeting for 10 people to 4,500 cocktail guests in the Pavillion. It has full AV support provided by INHOUSE Venue Technical Management and catering services.
  3. But you can hold meetings and events elsewhere. Southern Sun has over 300 conference venues and banqueting facilities at its sites in South Africa, the Seychelles and the Middle East.
  4. There is plenty of space to stay over. Southern Sun has 16,000 rooms available at over 90 hotels and resorts, so putting delegates up is no problem. Two of its hotels in Sandton, close to the Convention Centre – The Southern Sun, Sandton and Sandton Sun and Towers – are among those which have recently undergone a refurbishment.
  5. No-one will go hungry. There are multiple ways to feed your delegates if you choose to hold an event at the Sandton Convention Centre. On-site, the centre’s executive chef and his team are on hand to create anything from snacks and light refreshments to exotic banquets, while Southern Sun’s nearby properties hold over a dozen restaurants and bars for off-site dining.
