Spotlight On: Destination Toronto

Why Toronto should be your next event destination

Toronto is a city where diversity, innovation, and global connectivity come together to create one of North America’s most compelling destinations for meetings and events. As Canada’s largest city and the fourth largest in North America, the city combines world-class infrastructure with a welcoming, internationally-minded atmosphere that resonates with planners and delegates alike.

For the UK market, Toronto continues to build momentum as a destination. Direct flights from London take just over seven hours, while Toronto Pearson International Airport connects to more than 180 destinations worldwide. Once in the city, the UP Express train reaches downtown in just 25 minutes, making arrivals seamless and efficient. Combined with the strength of the British pound against the Canadian dollar, Toronto offers strong value without compromising on quality or experience.

Toronto is home to more than a quarter of Canada’s largest business headquarters and nurtures a booming start-up culture, making it a global influencer across multiple sectors including technology, life sciences and financial services.

Toronto’s diversity is one of its defining strengths. More than 53 per cent of residents were born outside Canada, representing over 230 nationalities and more than 180 languages and dialects. That multiculturalism shapes the city’s collaborative spirit and creates an environment where international attendees feel represented and welcomed.

The city offers more than 180 hotels and over 43,000 rooms, ranging from luxury properties to full-service conference hotels capable of hosting large self-contained meetings. The Metro Toronto Convention Centre remains the cornerstone of the city’s meetings landscape, while Exhibition Place continues to lead with sustainable, LEED-certified event facilities.

Toronto’s walkable downtown core makes it easy for delegates to move between hotels, venues, restaurants, and entertainment districts, while the city’s extensive PATH network provides 30 kilometres of weather-protected pedestrian walkways.

The city’s culinary scene is equally diverse, with more than 7,500 restaurants and over 100 MICHELIN-recognized dining experiences. Beyond the skyline, iconic Canadian experiences including Niagara Falls, Ontario wine country, and Muskoka are all within easy reach for incentive programmes and pre- or post-event itineraries.

Nicola Alexander is the UK sales director for Destination Toronto, bringing more than 25 years of experience in destination marketing. With an in-market UK representative, the city is reinforcing its presence and commitment to the UK business events market.

Open, inclusive, and globally connected, Toronto delivers the scale and sophistication of a major international city alongside the warmth and accessibility that define Canada itself.
